| Did You Know…
The Sinai Guild was originally founded to provide assistance and support for the staff of Detroit’s original Sinai Hospital.
In the early 1950’s, Jewish doctors around the country were struggling to find medical facilities that would grant them hospital privileges. Here in Detroit, a group of dedicated fundraisers worked tirelessly, creating a “Buy a Brick to Save the Sick” campaign that would raise enough money to create the city’s first Jewish hospital.
As the building was being constructed, Sinai Hospital’s Board of Trustees appointed Mrs. Joseph Erlick to establish a women’s auxiliary. Thirty-six women who were known to be active in Detroit’s Jewish community were appointed to the board, and before Sinai Hospital’s doors were open, The Sinai Guild had already begun its work.
